This year, Playwriting Australia is partnering with the Royal Exchange in Manchester, to host a live streamed Masterclass, with Joanna Murray-Smith.

Described by U.S. variety, as “Australia’s foremost female playwright”Joanna Murray-Smith’s plays have been produced all over the world. Her plays include American Song, Switzerland, Pennsylvania Avenue, Fury, True Minds, Songs for Nobodies, Day One – A Hotel – Evening, The Gift, Rockabye, The Female of the Species, Ninety, Bombshells, Rapture, Nightfall, Redemption, Flame, Love Child, Atlanta, Honour and Angry Young Penguins. She has also adapted Hedda Gabler for the State Theatre Company of South Australia and Ingmar Bergman’s Scenes from a Marriage for Sir Trevor Nunn in London.

The masterclass will take place of the 4th of May. All applicants must be; in Melbourne and available from 8am-12.30pm EST on that day. This process will involve sharing your work (created during the masterclass, not previously) with those in the room, and those watching the live stream.

Playwright Australia are calling for emerging playwrights, who would like to be participants in this streamed masterclass. It is a remarkable, and rare opportunity to improve your writing craft, with one of the Australian greats. Submissions will close on the 7th of April.
